About LNG Chain
LNG Chain is a static reference directory for the liquefied natural gas value chain: where gas is liquefied, how it is shipped, where it is regasified, and which few firms supply the hard-to-replace equipment along the way.
What the site covers
- LNG terminals — every import and export terminal in Global Energy Monitor's tracker, grouped by site with trains and phases beneath.
- Gas pipelines — transmission pipelines with routes on a map and the terminals they connect.
- LNG carriers — the fleet and order book, with shipyard, containment system and propulsion.
- Suppliers — a curated, source-cited short list of liquefaction licensors and EPCs, membrane and tank technology owners, shipyards and marine equipment makers.
- Chokepoint exposure — which maritime chokepoints each export terminal's cargoes pass through, ready to cross-link to the Chokepoints sister site once it is published.
Why it exists
The underlying data is public and well maintained, but lives in spreadsheets. LNG Chain gives every asset a stable page with a summary a person or a search engine can read in ten seconds, and links the pieces together: terminal to owner, owner to fleet, fleet to shipyard, cargo to chokepoint.
Who and how
LNG Chain is an independent project and is not affiliated with Global Energy Monitor. Data handling is described on the methodology page and sourced on data sources. Corrections to GEM's data belong with GEM; corrections to our grouping, aliases or supplier list are welcome.
